LATROBE, Pennsylvania - February 28, 2024 - Hiram men's volleyball fell short on the second leg of its back-to-back on Wednesday, losing to Saint Vincent in three sets: 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.
Despite the loss, the Terriers are 9-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play, with a chance to improve both of those records with another AMCC matchup coming up this weekend.
Kyle Martini led the team with eight kills, with Connor Tilton (seven) and Jackson Deubner (six) right behind him. Matthew Albano had 24 assists and Deubner added 12 digs, but the Bearcats held strong behind a 17-kill performance by Shawn McSwiggen.
Hiram showed improvement from the first set to the second set, increasing its hitting percentage from -0.029 to .118, with the second of the two marks beating the opposition. The Bearcats won seven of the last nine points in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
It was a back-and-forth third set, with both teams showing the ability to string together points. Saint Vincent would use a 6-0 run of its own to secure the conference victory.
The Terriers will next take on Hilbert on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
