BETHANY, West Virginia - February 27, 2024 - Hiram rolled to a straight-set victory over Bethany on Tuesday, as it showcased the depth of its roster in a match with a hitting percentage of .456 and a final score of 25-7, 25-12, 25-11.
The dominant victory – which saw Hiram never trail for the entirety of the match – snapped a four-game losing streak and lifted the Terriers back over .500 on the season with a 9-8 record.
It was a great opportunity for the Terriers to put their variety of talent on full display, with five student-athletes recording at least four kills: Cullen Sivak (nine), Jacob Thomas (six), Jack Meinert (four), Colin Brooks (four) and Dakotah Welsh (four). Brady Greco and Eli Coundourides split up the setting duties, with 13 and eight assists, respectively. Jack Meinert recorded five total blocks on the defensive end.
Hiram recorded at least 10 kills in every set and had a hitting percentage of .611 in the first set and .500 in the second set. Sivak started the match and balanced his production with three kills in each set.
The Terriers were also able to string together points effectively, with six separate scoring runs of at least four straight points. Part of that effectiveness was because of the team's ability to keep points alive, as it won the head-to-head battle in digs, 30-18.
A quick turnaround is in store for Hiram, as it will travel to Latrobe, PA for a conference game against Saint Vincent on Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the Robert S. Carey Center.
