HIRAM, Ohio – February 24, 2024 - The Hiram men's volleyball team lost twice on Saturday inside Price Gymnasium, as it took on some tough competition in its final tri-match of the 2024 season. The Terriers fell in five sets to Baldwin Wallace and three sets to the ninth-ranked team in the nation, Juniata.
Despite the losses, Hiram's
Jackson Deubner was named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts throughout the two matches. The junior recorded 13 and five kills over the two matches, increasing his total to 127 this season.
Also named to the All-Tournament Team was Juniata's Luke Hoffman (MVP), Reese Ganter, Tyler Goldsborough and Campbell Gerdeman, as well as Baldwin Wallace's Michael Beard and Brandon Long.

A dramatic finish worked in the Yellow Jackets' favor in the first match of the day, as Hiram had match point in the final set (14-13) before the visiting team ripped off four of the next five points to pick up the win.
It was a tough end to a promising effort from the Terriers, who had a better hitting percentage (.273 to .154) and more kills (54 to 47) than its opposition. Deubner and Dakota Welsh spearheaded the way with 13 kills apiece, while
Matthew Albano had team-highs in assists (42) and digs (15).
Hiram played well in the first and fourth sets, particularly in the key moments; the team won four of the last five points in each set. The balanced attack also included
Kyle Martini, who had 11 kills on the offensive end and three total blocks on the defensive end.
Match 2 Recap (Juniata 3, Hiram 0)
The Terriers played a team that has now won 18 consecutive sets dating back to Feb. 10. Juniata, who landed ninth in the latest AVCA poll, had a hitting percentage near 40% for the match (.388), with Goldsborough leading the way with 13 kills and four service aces.
Hiram trailed 12-9 in the first set, had a 10-10 tie in the second set and a 15-11 deficit in the third set, but the Eagles would pull away and keep their remarkable streak alive.
Connor Tilton led his team in the match, recording seven kills and four digs.
What's Next
Hiram will travel to Bethany, West Virginia for a matchup with Bethany College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. inside Hummel Field House.
