Terriers Score 5 Unanswered Goals In 4th Quarter To Beat Bethany, 11-9

Hiram Starts 2024 Season With Home Win

HIRAM, Ohio - February 21, 2024 - A seesaw affair swung back in Hiram's favor on Wednesday evening at Henry Field, as the Terriers scored five unanswered goals to end their season opener in victorious fashion, 11-9.

The win lifted the team to a 1-0 record under first-year head coach Jason Griffith in front of a roaring home crowd.

Hiram led 2-0, trailed 5-2, fought back to a 5-4 deficit and trailed 9-6 before piecing together a memorable fourth quarter that sealed the come-from-behind effort. Ethan Mayer and Noah Pilgram each had three goals to lead the team, with Pilgram also dishing out three assists.

There were many stages to the game, with a fast-paced, high-intensity style of play taking place in the first quarter. The two teams combined for six goals in seven minutes before the defense took over for the remainder of the first half.

Bethany led at the intermission, 6-4, but the Terriers got key goals from Levi Willett and Kellen Wetz to stay within striking distance in the second quarter.

The second half was highlighted by the veteran production of Mayer, who scored all three of his goals during that span. Micky Morgan would add the go-ahead score with 3:23 remaining in the fourth quarter and Pilgram would finish off his six-point performance with an insurance goal in the closing moments.

Hiram will look to keep it rolling when it travels to Steubenville, Ohio on Saturday for a non-conference matchup with Franciscan at 1 p.m.
