Hiram Comes Up Short In Tri-Match With Wittenberg, Wabash

Terriers Move To 8-6 This Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio - February 17, 2024 - A trip to the Greater Columbus Convention Center ended with a pair of losses for the Hiram men's volleyball team on Saturday, as the team fell short to Wittenberg (3-0) and Wabash (3-1).

Despite the losses, the Terriers are 8-6 on the season and 1-0 against AMCC competition.

The team will take a week off before returning to competition on Saturday.

Game 1 Recap

Hiram got offensive contributions from Connor Tilton (7 kills), Kyle Martini (7) and Jackson Deubner (5) throughout the first match of the day. The balance of the team also was evident on the defensive end, with four student-athletes recording at least three digs and four different student-athletes notching at least one block.

The Terriers played their best volleyball in the third set, when it never trailed by more than 3 points for the entirety of the set. Tilton, Martini and Deubner each had 3 kills in the set, but Wittenberg secured the match on a pair of service errors.

Game 2 Recap

Hiram bounced back and started on the right foot against Wabash, winning the first set behind 5 kills from Deubner and 4 kills from Martini. The team went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-6 lead, an advantage that would hold through the end of the set.

The Little Giants found their groove in the final three sets, which included a .462 hitting percentage in the second set and .520 hitting percentage in the fourth set. Bawibawi Thang had 13 kills, which tied Martini for the most among all student-athletes in the match.

What's Next

Hiram will host its third tri-match of the season on Saturday, as Baldwin Wallace and Juniata will also be part of the event inside Price Gymnasium in Hiram, Ohio.
