HIRAM, Ohio - December 4, 2024 - The Terriers men's basketball team bounced back from a slow first half by outscoring their opposition, No. 13 Wooster, by one point in the second half of a 74-59 loss on Wednesday evening at Price Gymnasium.
The Fighting Scots were ranked 13th in the latest national poll from D3Hoops.com and improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season. The team had also opened the season with an exhibition against Division I South Carolina, a game that saw it score 60 points against an SEC opponent.
Even though Hiram fell short in the game, the team's defense was on full display. Wooster scored a season-low 74 points and only had one starter score in double-figures (Ashton Price, 16 points). Both teams had 14 turnovers, with Hiram having five different student-athletes with at least one steal in the game.
Leading the home team's offensive production was Ivan Yang, who recorded his fourth double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Collin Jones added on to his impressive freshman season, leading the bench unit with 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
The Terriers fell into a 9-0 hole through the first two minutes of the game and couldn't cut the margin closer than three for the remainder of the first half. Price scored all 16 of his points in the half.
Hiram trailed by as many as 21 points in the second half, but kept pace with its elite opposition to finish with a final deficit of just 15 points. All 10 Terriers student-athletes who logged minutes in the game scored at least two points.
The Terriers will jump back into non-conference action next Wednesday, when they head to Cleveland for a matchup with the CWRU Sparts at 7 p.m. inside Horsburgh Gymnasium.
