Hiram Men Extend Unbeaten Streak, Women Pick Up 1st Victory In Dual Meet At Bluffton

Terriers Begin Weekend With Pair Of Wins

LIMA, Ohio - October 19, 2024 - It was a sweeping start to the weekend for the Hiram swimming teams on Friday evening at the Lima YMCA, as the Terriers men and women both beat Bluffton,127-19 (men) and 76-68 (women).

The men's team is now a perfect 3-0 to start the season for the second straight year, while the women's team is officially in the win column for the first time in 2024-25.

Men's Recap

The 400-yard medley relay team of Nathan Ratynski, Jon Hybil, Joe Krosky and Luke Mackall got things started on a high note with a win (4:26.41). Moments later, Owen Pastorius took down the 1000-yard freestyle (11:13.61).

The freestyle events continued to be a strength for the Terriers, with Dayne Sauter winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.77) and Ethan O'Malley claiming the 50-yard freestyle (24.03). Pastorius wrapped up his day with another two individual victories in the 200-yard IM (2:20.30) and 500-yard freestyle (5:25.24).

The last of the victories came in the 200-yard butterfly (Korsky, 2:28.00), 100-yard freestyle (Sauter, 51.35), 200-yard breaststroke (Jon Hybil, 2:33.40) and 400-yard freestyle relay (David Slovenkay, Ethan Drake, O'Malley, Sauter, 3:43.31).

Women's Recap

Grace Basham made a statement in the first women's event of the night, rolling her way to a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (14:34.15). The junior would later win the 200-yard IM (3:17.99) to pick up a pair of individual victories.

Madison Fleischer extended the strong start to her collegiate career, winning the 50-yard freestyle (28.37). Sophomore Haven Papineau won the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.64) and 200-yard backstroke (2:31.24) in what turned out to be critical events in deciding the outcome of the dual meet with the Beavers.

Becca Johnston capped off the victorious effort with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:30.03), an event that proved to be the difference in the 76-68 final score.

What's Next

Both teams will get a full week away from competition before returning to the pool a week from Saturday on October 26. Hiram will visit Wittenberg Natatorium in Springfield, Ohio to take on the Tigers in the first conference meet of the campaign.
