HIRAM, Ohio - October 12, 2024 - Hiram kept it close, but couldn't muster the offense to beat Wabash in a 2-0 loss on Saturday late afternoon at Henry Field.
The Terriers tripled their shot attempts in the second half compared to the first 45 minutes, but the assertiveness on the offensive end fell just short against a Little Giants team that is now 8-2-2 this season.
Bruno Zamora scored in the 10th minute and Jose Escalante scored in the 57th minute to account for the lone offense in the match. Zamora's goal came off of a free kick by Jesse Martinez, while Escalante's score came on a breakaway opportunity that included a pair of perfect passes by Martinez and Zamora.
Hiram had a number of effective sliding tackles and defensive plays that kept Wabash from creating offensive chances throughout the match. Only five of the Little Giants' 15 shots in the match were on target.
The Terriers got shots on goal from Alex Lineen, Bedo Kusuni and Liam O'Brien, while Tyler Jurgensen was steady as the team's starting goalkeeper.
Hiram will next travel to Delaware, OH for a road battle with Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
