Hiram Battles In Loss To Wittenberg

Terriers Find Offensive Form In Second Half Of Conference Loss

HIRAM, Ohio – January 17, 2024 – Hiram hung tough in a home matchup against Wittenberg, battling through a low-scoring first half and a lengthy delay in the second half in what turned out to be an 80-51 loss on Wednesday evening at Price Gymnasium.

The Terriers shot 46% in the second half – including 11-18 on 2-point field goals – while the period was delayed due to a clock malfunction to keep strong against an opponent that improved to 12-5.

Trent Jakacki led the team with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Mitchell Wiechecki and James Moore each chipped in 7 points as part of the starting lineup. Ivan Yang had a team-high 9 rebounds and Manuel Devora Violan had a team-high 4 assists to round out the production.

Hiram kept the game within two possessions for the entirety of the first 10 minutes, playing with tenacity on the defensive end and spreading the offense between four student-athletes. Moore electrified the team later in the quarter, totaling 5 points and a block in less than two minutes of game time.

The Tigers made a 3-pointer as time expired to take a 14-point lead into the intermission, which was the largest lead by either team in the first half.

The Terriers found their form offensively in the second half, with Jakacki scoring throughout and other student-athletes also finding the scoring column. DJ Niles produced a highlight reel play on a steal and transition dunk in the final minute, but Wittenberg would ultimately prevail.

Hiram will take the weekend off before returning to action next Wednesday against Denison at 8 p.m. inside Livingston Gymnasium.
