GAMBIER, Ohio – September 30, 2023 – The Hiram football team lost, 40-16, on Saturday afternoon at McBride Field despite a pair of rushing touchdowns and a standout pass defense in the game.
Gabriel Hoskins ran for a career-high 104 yards, including a 42-yard TD run, while
Egya Quaison-Sackey had a 22-yard scoring dash of his own. The Hiram secondary held the opposition to just 136 yards and 11 completions throughout the conference clash.
Hiram showed grit after trailing 14-0 early in the second quarter;
Chris Miller knocked through a 25-yard field goal and Quaison-Sackey found his way to the end zone to trim the margin to just five points (14-9). Kenyon made a field goal as time expired in the second quarter, but the Terriers were within striking distance heading into halftime.
Kenyon played well on both sides of the ball in the third quarter, scoring twice on a pair of touchdown runs and getting a safety to expand the lead. Jordon Benjamin and Nolan Dirks had a combined four rushing touchdowns on the day, with Dirks adding another TD in the fourth quarter.
The Terriers again showed resilience in the final minutes; the team went on a 6-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in the first touchdown of Hoskins' three-year career. It was the longest rush of the season for the team.
Hiram will look to bounce back next Saturday when it travels to Springfield, Ohio to take on Wittenberg at 1 p.m.
