Hiram Gets Pair Of Takeaways In Loss To Denison

Terriers Defense, Rushing Attack Play Well In Conference Battle

HIRAM, Ohio – September 23, 2023 – The Hiram football team made some noise on Saturday afternoon, forcing a pair of Denison turnovers and cashing in on the offensive end as part of a 55-24 loss on Saturday afternoon at Henry Field.

The Terriers ended up outscoring the Big Red in the third quarter, 14-7, thanks to an interception by Dylan Baliker and a forced fumble by Jalen Glass that happened to be recovered by Baliker. The two plays helped Hiram in terms of field position, while also setting them up for 23-yard touchdown run by Jordan Townsend and a 2-yard touchdown run by Anthony Brumbaugh.

Also scoring in the game for the Terriers was Egya Quaison-Sackey, who ran the ball in from 8 yards out in the later stages of the fourth quarter to give Hiram a season-high 24 points. The team won the second half, 21-14, and now heads into its fifth game of the year with something to build upon.

It was another day for the talented Hiram rushing attack, which finished the day with 102 combined yards and another 3 touchdowns. The Terriers now have 7 rushing touchdowns this season.

On the defensive end, Dylan Baliker, Gavin Cruser and Kole Tarary each had 9 tackles to lead the team. Baliker had a standout day with both the interception and fumble recovery, while Malakai Nation and Terry Allison each had a pass breakup in the secondary.

Hiram fell behind early, as all-conference running back Trey Fabrocini broke loose for a pair of touchdowns and over 100 yards. Jimmy Stines threw 5 touchdowns in the game despite the interception and strip sack by the Hiram defense.

The Terriers will have a big opportunity next week, when it takes on a team with the same record, Kenyon, on Saturday at 1 p.m. from McBride Field in Gambier, Ohio.
