Hiram Continues Strong Play At Home In 0-0 Tie vs Chatham

Terriers Have Allowed 1 Goal In 3 Home Games This Season

HIRAM, Ohio - September 14, 2023 - The Hiram men's soccer team tied Chatham on Thursday evening at Henry Field, 0-0.

The tightly contested affair marked the second career shutout in three starts for goalkeeper Sean Rubin. The Terriers have now allowed just 1 goal in three home games this season, too.

Keagan Le'Roux and Jayden Julian were active on the offensive end, combining for 4 shots and 2 shots on goal in the contest. Drew Ferrari, Vincent Rienzi, Travis Shrout and Alex Navarro also had shots on goal.

On the defensive end, the Terriers allowed just 4 shots on goal, which was tied for their second-fewest shots on goal allowed in a game this year (allowed 3 shots on goal vs La Roche).

Hiram did a good job in the early stages of keeping the score deadlocked at 0-0; the team faced 5 shots in the first 26 minutes, 2 of which were saved by Rubin. The Terriers got some high-energy play from their freshman reserves, with Chance McGinnis and Navarro accounting for the team's first three shots of the game.

Strong defensive play on both sides kept it a 0-0 game at the half.

The Terriers came out with an assertive offense in the second half, as they tallied twice as many shots (10 to 5) as their opposition over the final 45 minutes. Chatham played a strategic game throughout, maintaining possession and keeping the ball away from Hiram as long as it could.

Hiram's best chances came in the final 10 minutes, when freshman Simon Schonfeld put the ball past the outstretched arms of the goalie, but too high to find the back of the net. McGinnis and Le'Roux also had shots on goal in the late moments of the game, but the teams ended in a tie.

The Terriers will play their third game of the week on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host Geneva at Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
