TIFFIN, Ohio - September 13, 2023 - The Terriers women's volleyball team lost to Heidelberg in three sets on Wednesday evening at Seiberling Gymnasium.
Hiram improved as the match went along, winning 12, 15 and 21 points from the first to the third set. The team led multiple times in the third set and eventually evened the score at 21-21 before the Student Princes closed out the non-conference battle.
It was a balanced day for the Terriers, with Cate Maguire having 6 kills, Claire Brunner tallying 5+ kills for the second time in her career, and Emily Richardson adding 4 kills of her own. Brooke Fishback put up a season-high 11 assists, while Brunner completed her big day with a career-high 8 digs.
Heidelberg improved to 10-1 with the win, Riley Tople having a game-high 10 kills. Maddie Reed did most of the distributing on the evening with 18 assists.
Hiram found its rhythm in the third set, as the margin between the two teams was three-or-fewer points until Heidelberg closed it out and won, 25-21. Brunner had all five of her kills in the final set.
The Terriers will have a great opportunity to bounce back this weekend, when they play four games as part of the Allegheny Invitational in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Pitt-Greensburg will be the team's first opponent on Friday at 5 p.m. from the David V. Wise Center.
