HIRAM, Ohio - April 5, 2023 - Hiram ran into tough competition on Wednesday evening, losing in three sets to Geneva at Price Gymnasium: 12-25, 17-25, 18-25.
The Golden Tornadoes entered play with a 10-1 record in conference play, with their only loss coming against Penn State Behrend (12-1) this past Saturday. Their success in the AMCC continued against a Terriers team that battled throughout the night.
Kyle Martini and Jarod Leynes led Hiram with 9 kills each, with Garrett Scheidegger (4) and Jackson Deubner (3) also chipping in. Matthew Albano had team-highs in assists (26) and digs (9) to fuel his team on both ends of the court.
The scoring runs in the game proved to be the difference; Geneva had scoring runs of 6, 5 and 5 points in each of the three sets respectively. Martini and Leynes consistently paced the offense, with Albano adding 2 service aces and Martini having 1.
The Terriers will look to respond in their final regular-season game on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Medaille inside Price Gymnasium.
