WOOSTER, Ohio - April 29, 2023 - The Hiram baseball team lost both of its games to Wooster on Saturday, 16-6 and 8-2, from Art Murray Field.
Hal Walker Jr., Evan Fairbanks and Connor Bansek each had multi-hit performances in Game 1 – including a 3-run homer by Bansek – while Jack Conley allowed just 4 ER over 7 innings on the mound in Game 2.
The Terriers will have a quick turnaround and host Grove City on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Game 1 Recap
Hiram drew first blood in Game 1 thanks to RBI singles by Walker Jr. and Fairbanks in the first inning. Two innings later, Bansek drove his second career home run to left field to give the Terriers a 5-3 advantage.
The Wooster offense was able to score 13 runs over the final 4 innings to reclaim the lead. Hiram added a run on a Michael Corsillo RBI single, but couldn't overcome the deficit as the game progressed.
Game 2 Recap
The Terriers pitching staff got a boost from Jack Conley in Game 2, with the sophomore working 7 quality innings. It marked the third time Conley pitched at least 7 innings in a game this season. He finished with a final line of 7 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
Hiram's scoring all came in the ninth inning, with Bansek continuing his big day with an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Bansek finished with 4 RBI between the two games, and now has a team-high 22 RBI this season.
Freshman Logan Gallentine rounded out the production with an RBI single of his own.
