HIRAM, Ohio - April 27, 2023 - The Hiram baseball team lost both of its games to Muskingum on Thursday, 18-12 and 5-4, at Fishel Field.
Chaisson Marrs, Michael Corsillo and Hal Walker Jr. each had multiple hits atop the lineup in Game 1, while Jacob Kocuba was effective out of the 'pen in Game 2.
The Terriers now will set their sights on Saturday, when they travel to Wooster to take on the Fighting Scots for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
Game 1 Recap
It was an action-packed start to the day for both teams; they combined for 30 runs and 35 hits over just 7 innings. Hiram scored 6 of those runs in the first inning, with Mike Midea lacing a 2-run double down the left-field line and Connor Bansek singling through the left side to help the team to an early 6-0 lead.
Muskingum jumped back on top thanks to a 10-run fifth inning, but Hiram swiftly answered with 4 runs in the home half of the frame. Hal Walker Jr. had an RBI single during the rally to bring the deficit to 15-11.
Noah Brown gave the bullpen a boost with 2.2 innings of 3-run ball (2 earned), but Muskingum was able to hold on for the win.
Game 2 Recap
Game 2 was more of a pitcher's duel, with Hiram's Aidan Stephens and Muskingum's Sheadon Sullivan trading zeroes on the mound. The Terriers drew first blood on a fielder's choice that brought home Aidan Bustillos.
The Fighting Muskies tied the game in the top of the fourth before Logan Gallentine delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the home half. Gallentine finished the game with 2 hits, tied for his most in a game.
Muskingum scored 4 runs in the fifth inning to regain a 5-2 lead. Kocuba finished with a final line of 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB and Hiram scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Muskies again were able to close it out.
