Hiram's Hard-Fought Effort Comes Up Short Against Hilbert

Terriers Play Final Road Game Of Regular Season

HAMBURG, New York - April 1, 2023 - Hiram battled deep into each of its three sets against Hilbert, but the fight fell just short in a loss on Saturday afternoon: 26-28, 21-25, 18-25.

The Terriers had a pair of set points in the first set, saved two set points in the second set and kept pace in the third set of the conference loss.

Garrett Scheidegger had 9 kills on the day, which was tied for his 2nd-most in a career game (13 kills at Geneva this season). Kyle Martini also had 9 kills, while Cullen Sivak continued his late-season emergence with 8 kills.

Defensively, Connor Tilton had 9 digs and Jack Meinert had his third career game with multiple blocks. Martini also added 6 digs to complete his balanced effort in the match.

Neither team scored more than 3 consecutive points in the first set; the action continued to move back-and-forth until the score was tied, 23-23. Hiram would eventually have set points at 24-23 and 25-24, but the Hawks did just enough to come away with the set, 28-26.

The Terriers took a 7-5 lead in the second set, with Jarod Leynes and Martini keying a 3-0 run with a pair of kills. Hilbert would again respond in the later stages; the Hawks went on a 4-0 run to take a 20-15 lead and then won the set on a service error.

Hiram did all it could to get back in the match in the third set, but the Hawks prevented their opposition from gaining momentum. Brad Converse was the team's leader in kills with 9.

The Terriers still have a chance to finish the regular season with a winning record in conference play; they will host Geneva on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Medaille on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
