Hiram Battles Hard In 8-5 Loss To Washington & Jefferson

Morgan Scores 3 Goals In Non-Conference Defeat

HIRAM, Ohio - March 8, 2023 - Hiram battled back from an early deficit but couldn't take the lead in an 8-5 loss to Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday evening at Henry Field.

The Terriers trailed 4-1 but were able to cut the margin to 4-3 and 6-5 in the later stages of the game. The Presidents scored 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the non-conference affair.

Micky Morgan led Hiram with a career-high 3 goals, while Brett Johnson and Trevor Nordstrom scored the other 2 goals. Nordstrom also assisted on 2 of the team's 5 goals, both of which were on Morgan goals.

Parker Lucas scored the first two goals of the game, carving out a 2-0 lead for Washington & Jefferson. The Terriers defense had a strong effort, allowing only those 2 goals in the first 20 minutes of game time.

Nordstrom put Hiram on the board with his 1st goal of the season about 5 minutes into the second period. Washington & Jefferson added another goal to put the halftime deficit at 3-1.

It was more of a high-scoring second half, with the teams combining for 9 goals after having 4 in the first half. Morgan scored 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the third quarter to trim the margin to one.

After Washington & Jefferson scored 2 goals, Hiram again returned to the scoring column thanks to scores by Johnson and Morgan. The duo of midfielders played well throughout the game, with Johnson also having 3 ground balls and winning 5 faceoffs.

The Presidents closed out the game with goals by Aidan Herman and Lucas. They improved to 3-2, while the Terriers dropped to 1-4.

Hiram will stay at home and look to pick up their first win at Henry Field when they play Mount St. Joseph on Monday at 5 p.m.
