GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania - March 4, 2023 - Hiram lost 16-9 in a high-scoring battle against Thiel on Saturday afternoon at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The Terriers took an early 4-2 lead – capped off by 2 goals in 2 minutes by Ambrose Colliluori – before the Tomcats scored 12 straight goals and pulled ahead by double-digits. Hiram would end the game on a positive note by scoring the final 3 goals.
Colliluori recorded 3 goals, while Ethan Mayer and Noah Pilgram notched 2 goals apiece. Aaron Gardner was active throughout the contest with a team-high 9 ground balls.
The loss moves Hiram's record to 1-3, with 5 more non-conference games remaining on the schedule.
Mayer, Trevor Flugum and Colliluori got Hiram going with 3 goals in the first quarter; the team took a 3-2 lead at the end of the period, its first lead at the end of a first quarter this season.
Colliluori returned to the scoring column just 24 seconds into the second quarter, extending the Hiram lead to 4-2. The rest of the quarter proved to be difficult, with Pat Harnett and Chase Lawler combining for all 7 of the remaining goals to put Hiram's halftime deficit at 9-4.
Thiel extended their 7-0 run to 12-0 in the third quarter; Lawler added a 5th goal and Harnett scored his 4th goal of the day. Pilgram stopped the run with 2 straight goals and Hiram would score 5 of the last 7 goals in the game to put the final tally at 16-9.
The Terriers will return home and take on Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Henry Field.
