HIRAM, Ohio - March 21, 2023 - The Terriers softball team split their doubleheader against John Carroll with a 6-1 win and 1-0 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Herndon Field.

Hiram is now 6-4 on the season, with another doubleheader against an OAC opponent coming up on Wednesday against Baldwin Wallace beginning at 3 p.m.
Game 1 Recap
The Blue Streaks cracked the scoring column first with a run in the opening frame, but Hiram controlled the remainder of the game with 6 runs on 9 hits. Fayth Kawamura, who had a game-high 3 hits, got the Terriers on the board with an RBI single in the third inning.
Victoria Garcia followed Kawamura with an RBI single of her own to give Hiram its first lead of the day, 2-1. One inning later, Kawamura returned to the action with another RBI single to give the home team a 2-run lead.
Darian Kanno was lights out after the first inning; the sophomore finished with a final line of 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0Â ER, 3 BB, 5 K. Kanno stranded a pair of runners on third base to keep John Carroll off the board.
Moser accounted for the remainder of the offense with the first home run of her collegiate career. Santellan and Abriana Schwartz both scored on the play to give Hiram a commanding 5-run lead and eventually the victory.
Game 2 Recap
It was a pitching duel in Game 2; the two teams combined for 1 run on 9 hits. John Carroll scored the decisive run in the second inning on an RBI single.
That would be the lone damage charged to Trinity Meza (2 IP) before Santellan (4 IP, 0 H) and Laci Carter (1 IP, 0 H) both kept the Blue Streaks offense in check. Santellan has now pitched 9 scoreless innings over her last two outings.
Hiram had runners on second and third with one out in the home half of the seventh inning, but Danielle Orendi escaped the jam and helped John Carroll to its 8th win of the season.
