WINTER HAVEN, Florida - March 10, 2023 - Kylie Perez tied a program record with 6 RBI in Hiram's 10-1 win over Wisconsin River-Falls on Friday at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Florida. The Terriers also lost, 6-5, in 9 innings to Aurora in the first game of the day.
Perez joins Mariah Sheffield (2021), Lauryn Olguin (2020), Jessica Bolanz (2013) and Alyssa Lane (2010) as the only players in program history to have 6 RBI in a single game; Perez was able to accomplish the feat in a game that ended after 5 innings.
Darian Kanno homered in Game 1 against Aurora, which saw both teams trade runs in extra innings before the Spartans held on for good in the ninth.
Hiram is now 3-3 on the young season with 2 games remaining on its Florida trip.
Game 1 Recap vs Aurora
Hiram showed resilience in Game 1, erasing a deficit of 3 runs (3-0) and 2 runs (5-3). Kanno opened the scoring with the first home run by a Terriers player this season; it also was the 3rd career home run for the sophomore.
The Terriers were able to tie the game, 3-3, in the home half of the seventh inning thanks to an RBI single by Perez. Hiram was down to its last out before the senior extended the game into extra innings.
Both teams scored 2 runs in the eighth inning, with Hiram's production coming on Angel Santellan's RBI single and an error that brought her home.
Kionna King was responsible for the winning play, delivering a go-ahead RBI bunt single in the top of the ninth. The Terriers were able to advance Larissa Baeza to third base in the bottom half before the final two hitters were retired.
Game 2 Recap vs Wisconsin - River Falls
Perez highlighted a dominant Game 2 win, lifting a 3-run homer in the first inning, 2-run single in the third inning and RBI double in the fifth inning. The senior out of Los Lunas, New Mexico finished just a triple shy of the cycle.
The rest of the Hiram batting order combined to bat .318 (7-22) in the game, with freshman Danielle Robles having two hits out of the eighth spot in the lineup. Fayth Kawamura added 2 RBIs on a groundout in the third and a single in the fifth.
On the mound, Santellan earned the win behind 5 innings of 1-run ball. She allowed just 2 hits and retired 12 of the final 14 hitters she faced after the first inning.
The Terriers will finish their Florida trip with a doubleheader against Fontbonne and Geneva on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at DiamondPlex Field 5 in Winter Haven, Florida.
