HIRAM, Ohio – November 10, 2023 – The Terriers travel to Greencastle, IN for the third time this season ahead of an NCAC Tournament semifinal match against the top-seeded DePauw Tigers.
DePauw last beat the Terriers on October 7 in three sets, but fell to Hiram in three sets in its last NCAC Tournament game on November 4, 2022. This will be the seventh time in which these teams have met in the conference tournament, with the postseason series being tied, 3-3.Â
Hiram, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, is making its second straight semifinals appearance after knocking off the 4
th-seeded Oberlin Yeowomen this past Tuesday, winning in four sets (25-18, 25-13, 22-25, 25-19).
Emily Richardson and
Cate Maguire continued their offensive tear this season as they both posted double-digit kills, while the offense was also paced by
Brooke Fishback and
Erin Burke, who combined for 37 assists on the evening.
The Tigers were able to claw their way to the top spot in the conference at the conclusion of the regular season; the regular-season champion in the conference gets to host the semifinals and finals of the end-of-season tourney under the current format.
DePauw went 15-12 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play in the regular season. The team is led in kills by Katie Gansle (257), with two other student-athletes also having at least 200 kills (Olivia Karwin and Kaiden Harrington). Grace Myers leads the team in digs (455) and service aces (52).
The offense is in the hands of the Tigers' modified 6-2, with Olivia Karwin leading the team with 429 assists and Kendall Herrick having 393 assists. Lauren Ridgeway is DePauw's premier blocker, as she was able to record 82 blocks on the year.
The game takes place at 7:30 p.m. inside Neal Fieldhouse, with the winner of the match advancing to the championship game on Saturday against either Wittenberg or Ohio Wesleyan with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at stake.
