Terriers Fall To DePauw In Road Conference Match

Hiram Now 1-2 In NCAC This Season

GREENCASTLE, Indiana – October 7, 2023 – The Terriers women's volleyball team lost in three sets to DePauw on Saturday afternoon at Neal Fieldhouse: 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.

The match saw Hiram improve as things progressed, with the team having 7 kills in the first set, 9 kills in the second set and 10 kills in the third set. Emily Richardson (9 kills), Andrya Hanmore (7) and Claire Brunner (4) led the team in that department, with Brooke Fishback (16 assists) and Erin Burke (7) doing the setting.

For defense, Hiram had three different players with at least 10 digs: Brooke Norris (12), Brunner (10) and Fishback (10). Cate Maguire and Richardson had 4 and 3 blocks, respectively, to fill out the production.

Hiram had a 4-3 advantage in the first set before the Tigers scored four straight points and held a lead for the remainder of the set. DePauw played particularly well down the stretch to take the one-set lead.

The Terriers again found their groove to start the second set, leading 6-3 courtesy of four kills: two by Hanmore and one each for Maguire and Amber Fox. The teams would trade scoring runs midway through the set – each scoring four consecutive points – which set up another close finish that was ultimately won by DePauw.

The Tigers carried the second-set finish into the third set, taking a 6-2 lead. As it as done throughout the season, Hiram wouldn't back down and ended the match on a high note, with Richardson recording five kills in the set and Brunner adding four kills of her own. The Terriers brough the score to a one-point deficit (17-16), but fell just short in the closing moments.

Hiram will return to non-conference competition on Wednesday, when it travels to Cleveland to take on Case Western Reserve at 7 p.m. inside Horsburgh Gymnasium.
