SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - April 9, 2022 – Hiram College men's lacrosse fell to the Wittenberg University Tigers, 22-1 on Saturday at Edwards-Maurer Field.
Wittenberg got the scoring started quickly in the first quarter, winning the opening face-off and scoring their first of five first-quarter goals on Holton Boehmer's unassisted goal with 14:01 to play in the first.
Up 5-0 after one, Wittenberg quickly added to their lead in the second period on back-to-back goals by Boehmer to extend their lead to 7-0 before
William Luketich got the Terriers on the scoreboard with his unassisted goal with 9:03 left in the first half.
Wittenberg though, would add two more goals in the second quarter to take a 9-1 lead into the halftime break, before adding eight more in the third period and five in the final frame to finish off the 22-1 victory.
Hiram falls to 4-4 (0-3 NCAC) with the loss, while Wittenberg moves to 1-8 (1-2 NCAC) with the win.
Luketich led the Terriers with their lone goal, while
Brett Johnson tallied a team-high five shots. Defensively,
Gray Perry added a team-high seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.
In the face-off circle,
Markus Johnson and Luketich combined to win nine face-offs, while in goal for the Terriers,
Bricen Jones tallied nine saves, and
Jacob Hanrahan notched three.
The Terriers next travel to Meadville, Pa. for a mid-week matchup against the Allegheny College Gators on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m.
