CLEVELAND, Ohio – April 28, 2022 – Hiram Baseball, playing at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland, dropped a non-conference game vs. the John Carroll University Blue Streaks on Thursday afternoon by a score of 4-0.
In the top of the first inning, Justin Hanley reached on a throwing error from Hiram, prompting Benjamin Surman to score, giving JCU the early 1-0 advantage.
Henry Haracz doubled the score for the Blue Streaks, reaching on an error allowing for Matthew Springer to score in the next inning.
John Carroll added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Olsavsly hit an RBI single and then came around to score three batters later after a fielding error.
Down 4-0,
Hal Walker Jr. and
Kyle Workman reached base on a walk and single in the top of the sixth inning. No further damage was done for the Terriers in the frame.
Cody Wilson hit a single in the eighth and
Aidan Jantz picked up a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning for Hiram, but the Terriers fell 4-0 to the Blue Streaks.
Aidan Stephens (0-2) took the loss for Hiram after starting the game for the Terriers.
Along with Wilson and Jantz,
Kyle Workman,
Chaisson Marrs and
Tanner Allison all had singles.
On the mound,
Robert James,
Zachary Scalf,
Jack Conley,
Austin Smith,
Jacob Kocuba and
Sam Boyle had scoreless relief appearances. Conley struck out all three batters he faced and James and Kocuba had a strikeout of their own.
The Terriers fall to 12-20 on the year with just one more non-conference series remaining on the schedule.
Hiram picks up with North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on Saturday, April 30 hosting a doubleheader with Wabash beginning at noon.
