Hiram Baseball Falls in Extra Innings vs. John Carroll

HIRAM, Ohio – April 27, 2022 – Hiram baseball dropped an extra-innings affair with John Carroll on Wednesday night, falling to the Blue Streaks by a score of 7-6 in 11 innings.

John Carroll was the first to plate a run during the contest, with Landon Glaser hitting an RBI single off of Hiram starter Jack Longar.

Two innings later, Hiram responded with Curtis Caithaml hitting an RBI triple that tied the game at one in the third inning. Following the extra-base hit, Kyle Workman drilled his sixth home run of the year to left field on a two-run shot that scored Caithaml giving the home team a 3-1 lead.

JCU would answer back quickly, however, with two runs in the next frame, evening the score at three after two runs scored on a fielder's choice and a throwing error.

Cody Wilson tacked on another run with an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth before a Blue Streaks sacrifice fly in the fifth once again tied the game this time at four.

The sixth inning featured a pair of solo home runs from each side. First off for the Blue Streaks, Joe Olsavsky hit one, followed by Tanner Allison delivering one for the Terriers.

Hiram left two runners on base in the seventh and eighth innings, as extra innings approached from Fischel Field.

After no damage was done in the ninth, extra innings ensued. Benjamin Surman hit the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly with Glaser adding an insurance run making it 7-5.

The Terriers loaded the bases in the ninth, but couldn't score, falling to the Blue Streaks by a score of 7-5 in 11 innings.

Workman had a big day at the plate for Hiram with four hits, two runs and two RBI. Allison and Bansek also had two hits at the plate.

On the mound, Matthew Kardos and Austin Smith didn't allow any runs in their appearances combining for 3.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts. Jacob Kocuba took the loss for Hiram, falling to 3-2 on the year.
