Hiram Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Conference Matchup at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - April 23, 2022 Hiram College men's lacrosse fell to the DePauw University Tigers, 23-3, on Saturday at Reavis Stadium in their penultimate road matchup of the season.
 
The Tigers quickly took the lead just eight seconds into the first quarter, winning the opening face-off and taking a 1-0 lead on Chris Schaefer's goal, assisted by Connor Gibson. Jack Flynn quickly made it 2-0 less than a minute later, before the Terrier defense settled down and held DePauw off the scoreboard the rest of the quarter.
 
Bricen Jones and the Terrier defense kept things close for much of the early going of the second quarter as well, till goals by Danny Kawbowski and Beckett Tasker made it 4-0 with 10:46 until halftime.
 
DePauw would add five more goals in the quarter to take a 9-0 lead into the halftime break, and quickly made it 11-0 just under four minutes into the second half.
 
Noah Pilgram got the Terriers on the scoreboard with his goal, assisted by Ambrose Colliluori, with 10:52 to play in the third, but DePauw answered with Connor Gibson's goal, to take a 12-1 lead.
 
Down 17-1, Ethan Mayer again found the back of the net for the Terriers before the end of the period, scoring off Trevor Flugum's assist to make it 17-2 heading into the final frame.
 
After Flynn made it 18-2 with 10:50 to play, Pilgram took advantage of a DePauw penalty and scored with the man-advantage off another assist from Colliluori to take it 18-3. However, the Tigers would add five more goals in the period, the last coming with 1:22 to play, to finish off the 23-3 victory over Hiram.
 
Hiram falls to 4-8 (0-7 NCAC) with the loss, while DePauw moves to 3-11 (2-5 NCAC) with the win.
 
Pilgram led the Terriers with two goals on three shots, while Colliluori notched a pair of assists. Flugum, who tallied an assist on Mayer's goal, equaled Mayer for a team-high five shots.
 
In the face-off circle, Markus Johnson and William Luketich combined for 10 face-off wins, while Johnson and Aaron Gardner recorded a team-high four ground balls.
 
In goal for Hiram, Jones tallied 14 saves.
 
Hiram will wrap up its road slate on Tuesday, April 26 when it travels to Granville, Ohio for a matchup against the conference-leading Big Red at 7:00 p.m.
