GAMBIER, Ohio - April 16, 2022 – Hiram College men's lacrosse fell to the Kenyon College Lords in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play, 25-7, on Saturday at The Field at Benson Bowl.
Ambrose Colliluori got the Terriers on the scoreboard first, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Gage St. Leone to give Hiram a 1-0 lead with 13:27 to play in the first quarter.
However, Hiram's lead would be short-lived, as the Lords tied things up just over a minute later on Jack Guiffre's unassisted goal, and took the lead with 12:12 to play in the first on Bart Gardella's goal, assisted by Cameron Longway.
The Lords would then score eight more unanswered, extending their lead out to 10-1 on Guiffre's third goal of the quarter with just under a minute left.
Giuffre added another to start the second period, as Kenyon took a 15-1 just under six minutes into the second period before the Terriers got back on the scoreboard.
Taking advantage of a Kenyon penalty,
Brett Johnson scored his first goal of the day, assisted by Colliluori, to cut the Lords' lead to 15-2 with 8:44 left in the half.
Hiram would add another a little over four minutes late on
Trevor Flugum's first of the afternoon, off an assist from
Noah Pilgram, to make it a 15-3 lead for the Lords heading into the halftime break.
The Terriers scored again to open the third, this time on Pilgram's 10th goal of the year, assisted by Johnson, to make it a 15-4 Kenyon lead. However, the Lords quickly got back on the scoreboard and took a 19-4 lead midway through the third on Will Harrigan's man-up goal.
Flugum then added his second goal of the day, this time off Pilgram's assist, with five minutes left in the period, before the junior completed his hat trick with 1:50 left in the third off Johnson's second assist of the day, cutting Kenyon's lead down to 21-6 heading to the fourth.
The Lords would add five more goals in the final period before Colliluori again found the back of the net for a team-leading 26th time this season, cutting Kenyon's final lead to 25-7 off Johnson's third assist on the afternoon with 2:24 to play.
Colliluori would get another chance with just over a minute left to try and add another, but his shot was saved, and the Lords wrapped up a 26-7 victory.
Hiram falls to 4-6 (0-5 NCAC) with the loss, while the Lords move to 9-3 (4-1 NCAC) with the win.
Flugum led the Terriers with three goals on six shots, while Colliluori added two goals on six shots.
Johnson and Pilgram each tallied goals as well, with Johnson adding three assists, and Pilgram notching two, as well as three ground balls.
Defensively, Colliluori led Hiram with five ground balls, while
Isaiah Davilla caused a team-high two turnovers. In goal for the Terriers,
Bricen Jones made 11 first-half saves, while
Jacob Hanrahan made six in the second half.
In the face-off circle,
Markus Johnson won eight of his 18 face-offs, while
William Luketich won two.
The Terriers next return home for their penultimate home contest of the season, hosting the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops on Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at Charles A. Henry Field at Malmisur Stadium.
