GRANVILLE, Ohio – April 16, 2022 – Hiram baseball dropped two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games playing a doubleheader at Denison on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers lost game one 13-0 and fell in game two 10-0.
GAME ONE: Denison 13, Hiram 0 (7 innings)
Dylan Hunter got the scoring started for the Big Red in the first inning hitting an RBI groundout that scored Eric Colaco.
After a fielding error in the third inning scored another run for Denison, Hunter had another RBI this time on a single, making the score 3-0 for the home team.
A massive nine-run fourth inning ensued for the Big Red, with Hunter and Ari Fierer connected on home run shots with Denison pulling away now up 12-0.
After tacking on another run in the fifth, the Big Red won in seven innings by a final of 13-0 with the run rule.
Stephen Javorek (4-3) took the loss for Hiram.
Aidan Stephens had 2.2 innings of relief with one strikeout.
At the plate,
Cody Wilson,
Devin Houdeshell,
Chaisson Marrs and
Carter Smith all had hits.
GAME TWO: Denison 10, Hiram 0 (7 innings)
In the second inning, Danny Alvarez hit a solo home run putting Denison on the board. Owen Wilson followed that with an RBI walk.
Charlie Glennon continued the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly and Eric Colaco finished the scoring with an RBI single posting the Denison lead at 4-0.
Glennon again helped increase the lead again with an RBI sacrifice fly. Fierer capped off the scoring in the fourth inning with an RBI single.
In the sixth inning, Fierer hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Following that, Alvarez had an RBI double and Jake Welsch an RBI single.
Denison won in seven innings by a score of 10-0 with the run rule.
Curtis Caithaml and
Carter Smith had hits in game two with
Michael Corsillo collecting a double.
Jack Conley took the loss for Hiram falling to 1-3.
Jacob Kocuba pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Freshman
Ethan Godwin recorded an out on the only batter he faced.
With the two defeats, Hiram falls to 9-15 on the year and 1-7 in NCAC play.
Hiram baseball is back at Fishel Field at Proverbs Park on Monday, April 18 at 2 p.m. facing off against Westminster (Pa.)
