Hiram Baseball Picks Up Road Win at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio – April 12, 2022 – Hiram baseball picked up a non-conference road win at Bluffton, winning by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

The scoring got started in the second inning when Jordan Mallernee reached on a fielder's choice that scored Evan Fairbanks. After that, Chaisson Marrs hit an RBI single scoring Mallernee, followed by a Connor Bansek RBI single.

After leading off the inning with a walk in the third inning, Devin Houdeshell came all the way around to score after a wild pitch made the score 4-0 Terriers.

Bluffton got a run back in the bottom of the fourth after Nick Diana had an RBI walk, cutting the lead to 4-1.

Diana hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, shortening the lead to 4-3.

In the eighth inning, Bansek picked up a big RBI single scoring Caleb Giesken, giving the Terriers an insurance run up 5-3 heading into the ninth inning.

Jacob Kocuba shut the door on the Bluffton offense in the ninth, picking up his fourth save of the season.

Bansek collected three hits and two RBI in the road victory. Evan Fairbanks also had two hits.

Additionally, Kobe Hunter, Kyle Workman and Marrs had a hit in the contest.

Stephen Javorek started the game for Hiram pitching four innings along with four strikeouts. The right-handed pitcher earned his fourth win of the season.

In relief, the combination of Robert James, Austin Smith and Sam Boyle all held the Beavers offense in check. James and Boyle each had a punch out in their respective appearances.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 9-12 on the season and 4-2 on the road.

Next up for Hiram is another non-conference game as the team travels to play at Penn State Behrend on Thursday, April 14 with first pitch at 4 p.m.
