OBERLIN, Ohio – April 10, 2022 – Hiram baseball dropped a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games against Wittenberg playing at Dill Field in Oberlin, Ohio.
GAME #1: Wittenberg 10, Hiram 0 (7 innings)
Wittenberg struck first in the top of the first inning after Matt Moore hit an RBI double giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Connor O'Malley brought Moore in to score with Wittenberg up 3-0 after one.
Chase Wisner opened the game up with a two-run double in the second inning making the score 5-0 after two.
The Tigers pulled away in the fifth inning scoring three more runs capped off by a Wisner RBI double.
After an RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh, Wittenberg won by a run-rule by a score of 10-0.
Ben Gustely took the loss for Hiram after throwing 4.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Matthew Kardos,
Aidan Stephens and
Declan Ange all made relief appearances in game one.
Kyle Workman,
Aidan Jantz and
Kobe Hunter each had a hit in the first game.
GAME #2: Wittenberg 2, Hiram 0
A pitcher's duel ensued in game two between the Tigers and Terriers. Taking the ball for Hiram was freshman
Jack Conley with Austin Luther starting for Wittenberg.
After a bumpy first inning that saw the Tigers score one run on a sacrifice bunt, Conley settled in.
Between the second and seventh innings, the Sheffield Village, Ohio native allowed just four hits with no runs allowed.
Luther was equally as dominant for Wittenberg early on. In the middle portion of fame two, Lutcher allowed just three hits between the third and sixth inning.
After seven innings of work from Conley,
Jacob Kocuba came on in relief for Hiram. In the eighth inning, Wittenberg registered an insurance run after Austin Murrow hit an RBI double.
Luther finished the game on the mound, finishing off the complete game shutout closing out the 2-0 win.
At the plate,
Kyle Adams,
Connor Bansek and
Devin Houdeshell all had hits.
Conley picked up the loss after throwing seven innings with one strikeout. Kocuba pitched two innings with three strikeouts.
With the defeats, Hiram falls to 8-12 on the season and 1-5 in NCAC play.
Hiram is next scheduled to play on Monday, April 11 against Westminster (Pa.) with first pitch at 4 p.m. at Fishel Field at Proverbs Park.
