Hiram Baseball Has Another Big Day at the Plate with 17-9 win over Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. – March 31, 2022 – Hiram baseball reached the double-figure mark for the fourth time this season scoring 17 runs in a non-conference game at Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday afternoon.

Curtis Caithaml started the scoring for Hiram scoring Cody Wilson in the top of the first inning on an RBI double.

Evan Fairbanks added to the lead in the second inning, hitting his second home run of the season extending the lead to 2-0.

In the third inning, Hiram continued to extend their lead. Kyle Workman hit a two-run single followed by an RBI double from Evan Fairbanks. Tanner Allison finished off the inning with a two-run home run making the score 7-0 Hiram.

Connor Bansek continued to extend the Hiram lead an inning later making the score 8-0 after an RBI double. Caithaml connected on a two-run home run scoring Bansek to put the score at 10-0 Hiram. Chaisson Marrs finished out the scoring with an RBI single, as the Terriers exited the fourth inning up 11-0.

In the fifth inning, Pitt-Greensburg was able to get the bats going, cutting the lead to 11-7 after multiple runs in the fifth inning.

Kyle Workman helped extend the Hiram lead in the seventh inning, bringing in Bansek after an RBI double made the score 13-7.

In the last two innings of the ballgame, Bansek brought in two on a multi-run double and Kyle Adams hit an RBI double as well.

Robert James made the start for Hiram going three innings with six strikeouts. In relief, Ben Gustely pitched 2.1 innings recording the win. Additionally, Daniel Quintero Jr. and Jacob Kocuba allowed no runs pitching an inning of relief each.

At the plate, Caithaml and Bansek recorded three hits each. Bansek scored four runs with Caithaml plating two.

Kyle Workman, Hal Walker Jr., Evan Fairbanks and Marrs all had two hits in the contest for Hiram.

The Terriers' 17 runs scored is the most in the 2022 campaign with the team now scoring more than ten runs in four games this season. Additionally, Hiram has now won four-straight games as conference play approaches.

Hiram baseball next hits the diamond to open North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play vs Kenyon on Saturday, April 9. The Terriers face off with the Lords in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
