Hiram Baseball Wins Third Straight, Downing Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – March 24, 2022 – Hiram baseball picked up a road victory on Thursday afternoon defeating Thiel, 9-6.

A big first inning for Hiram put the Terriers up early with the team posting a five-spot before Thiel ever got the chance to bat.

Cody Wilson started the game off with a single with Connor Bansek following that with a walk. Kyle Workman brought in Wilson on an RBI single for the first run of the game.

Evan Fairbanks hit a two-run double later in the inning, scoring Hal Walker Jr. and Workman. Devin Houdeshell scored on a throwing error, then Chaisson Marrs helped score the fifth run of the inning on an RBI single.

In the second inning, Wilson again led off with a single and later came around to score after a Thiel throwing error.

Daniel Quintero Jr. cruised through the first three innings for Hiram allowing just two hits.

The Tomcats stormed back in the fourth inning evening up the game at six with multiple RBI hits.

With the score tied at six, the fifth and sixth innings stayed scoreless with Robert James now pitching for the Terriers.

In the seventh inning, Workman walked and Houdeshell hit a single before Marrs singled in Workman taking a 7-6 lead. After Marrs stole second base, Houdeshell scored, giving the Terriers an insurance run at 8-6.

Jacob Kocuba closed the door for Hiram, allowing just one hit in his final two innings pitched picking up his second save of the year.

Wilson and Walker Jr. led the Terriers lineup with two hits each and also scored two runs. Additionally, Workman and Houdeshell scored two runs. Fairbanks also had two RBI to lead the team.

On the mound, Quintero Jr. made the start pitching 3.1 innings picking up five strikeouts.

In relief, James pitched 1.2 innings giving up one earned run with a strikeout. Stephen Javorek (2-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Kocuba followed up Javorek with two scoreless himself along with three strikeouts.

With the win, the Terriers move to 6-7 on the season with their first road victory of the campaign. Additionally, Hiram has won five of their last six games.

Hiram next hits the diamond on Sunday, March 27 at Mount Union with first pitch at 1 p.m.
