Hiram Baseball Finishes Weekend with Big Win over Pitt. Bradford

BEREA, Ohio – March 20, 2022 – Hiram baseball finished off the weekend with a big 16-6 non-conference win over Pitt. Bradford.

It was smooth sailing through the first two innings for both Pitt. Bradford and Hiram on the mound. Freshman Jack Conley faced the minimum through the first six batters shutting down the Panthers' offense early.

Tyler Aires opened the scoring for Pitt. Bradford hitting an RBI single putting the Bobcats up 1-0. The Bobcats put another run across the plate going up 2-0 after the fourth inning.

Hiram started scoring in the fifth inning in a big way with a massive nine-run inning. Cody Wilson hit an RBI single, followed by Connor Bansek hitting his first career home run with a three-run shot.

Devin Houdeshell followed up the Bansek homer, with a grand slam that gave Hiram a comfortable 9-2 lead.

Pitt. Bradford answered the big inning from Hiram with a four-spot in the bottom of the fifth with the score now 9-6.

In the later innings, Hiram continued pulling away. Kyle Workman had an RBI walk in the sixth inning bringing the tenth run of the game across the plate.

In the eighth inning, Workman hit an RBI double and Hal Walker Jr. had an RBI triple with the Terriers pulling away. Aidan Jantz and Bansek hit RBI singles in the eighth and ninth innings with Hiram winning 16-6.

On the mound, Conley pitched four innings with two strikeouts. Matthew Kardos, Zachary Scalf and Jacob Kocuba finished the game with four scoreless innings of relief. Kardos earned the win, his second of the season.

Wilson had three hits and runs in the win batting in the leadoff spot. Bansek, Workman, Walker Jr. and Jantz added two hits.

Bansek and Houdeshell had four RBI as the bats came alive again for the Terriers to close out the week.  

Hiram has scored more than ten runs in three of its last four games. The team scored 15 runs in the home opener on March 17 and scored 14 runs on March 20.

With the win, Hiram improves to 5-7 on the season going 4-1 over their last five games.

Hiram next hits the diamond on Wednesday, March 23 playing at Thiel with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
