HIRAM, Ohio – March 17, 2022 – Hiram baseball picked up a big 15-7 win over Pitt. Greensburg, opening their home slate with a non-conference victory.

After
Robert James sat down the Bobcats in the first two innings, the visitors answered tying the game up at three following two RBI singles from Brody Bonadio and Devin Renzi.
The next inning, the Bobcats grabbed the brief lead, going up 4-3 after Diego Santos scored on an error.
The lead didn't last long, however, as
Evan Fairbanks hit his first home run of the season tying the contest at four the next half-inning. Corsillo came around the score on a fielding error that gave Hiram the 5-4 lead.
Fairbanks delivered with another big RBI hit in the fifth inning, on an RBI single scoring
Curtis Caithaml and Workman bolstering the Terriers lead to 6-4.
Hiram started pulling away in the sixth inning. Workman hit an RBI single, followed by Caithaml delivering a big bases-clearing three-run double giving the Terriers a 10-4 lead.
In the final innings, Fairbanks hit two RBI doubles and
Devin Houdeshell and Corsillo added RBI singles.
Pitt. Greensburg scored three more in the eighth, but Hiram held on for the 15-7 win.
On the mound, James finished pitching four innings with four strikeouts. Seven total pitchers saw action, with
Matthew Kardos (1-0) picking up the victory in relief. Kardos pitched 1.2 innings allowing no runs.
Additionally,
Sam Boyle,
Austin Smith,
Kaden Anderson and
Declan Ange all allowed no runs in their respective appearances.
Several hitters had big days at the plate for the Terriers with many having multi-hit games. Fairbanks led the team in both RBI and hits with five and four. Wilson, Workman and Caithaml each collected three hits for the afternoon along with Workman and Caithaml having three RBI.
Hal Walker Jr. and
Devin Houdeshell had two hits, capping off 19 total hits for the afternoon for Hiram.
With the win, Hiram improves to 3-6 on the year and 1-0 at home.
The team gears up for a three-game weekend at Baldwin Wallace. The Terriers are scheduled to play Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m., followed by a neutral-site game with Defiance at 1 p.m.
Closing out the weekend will be a 4 p.m. first pitch vs. Pitt. Bradford at Baldwin Wallace.
