GREENCASTLE, Ind. – February 5, 2022 – Hiram men's basketball dropped a road North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game at DePauw on Saturday afternoon, 66-54.
In the early portion of the first half,
Kevin Beans Jr. drained back-to-back three point shots as the Terriers started off with the 10-4 lead about four minutes into the contest.
Doug Sartain put in a layup, as Hiram held an 18-10 lead with 12:41 remaining in the first half.
The Tigers comeback run quickly started after the Sartain basket, with the Tigers clawing back to lead 28-20 after a Grant Niego layup.
Hiram answered the run with a comeback of their own down the stretch run of the first half. Baskets by
Brodgie Gordon,
Michael Ewart and
Doug Sartain put the visiting side up 33-28 with over three minutes left in the half.
Ewart closed out the half with a layup, as the Terriers went into the locker room up 37-33.
Gordon started the second half off with a made jump shot for Hiram, but DePauw quickly answered back. Elijah Hales knocked down a three ball and Cooper Mixon put in a free throw as the Tigers took a 49-42 lead with 9:37 left in the game.
DePauw continued to build onto their lead as the home team started pulling away. With 2:38 remaining, Mixon knocked down a three-point shot going up 61-49.
Gordon put in two free throws closing out the game as the Tigers won 66-54.
Gordon lead the way in scoring for Hiram putting up 16 points along with six rebounds. Beans Jr. scored 15 with Sartain adding ten.
For the game, Hiram shot 39.3% from the field and 29.2% from three.
With the loss, the Terriers drop to 8-12 on the year and 5-8 in conference play. Hiram will have a quick turnaround, playing at Wabash tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 5 with a 2 p.m. tip-off.
