Hiram Men's Volleyball Takes Two Over Medaille and Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. – February 26, 2022 - Hiram men's volleyball took home two wins over Medaille and Mount Aloysius in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) tri-match at Mount Aloysius.

Match #1: Hiram 3, Medaille 1
In the first set, Medaille put up six-straight point to create some separation going up 12-6. Later in the set, Hiram went on a run of their own posting five points in a row after two errors from the Mavericks getting back into the set now trailing 17-15. As the end of the set came closer, Medaille was able to pull away claiming five of the final six points winning the first set, 25-19.

The Mavericks again got off to a fast start in set number two going up 7-3. Hiram evened the score at eight, followed by a Nathan Cassell service ace. The Terriers pulled away after two Josh Jones service aces made the score 19-14. A Dangelo Boehner kill won the set for Hiram, with the visitors taking set two, 25-20.

Medaille again created a small lead going into the third set after multiple errors from Hiram going up 8-5. In the middle of the set, the Terriers picked up five of six points after a Boehner kill made the score 15-13. Down 21-17, Medaille racked up five-straight points taking the 22-21 lead. The teams traded points late in the set needing beyond 25 points to decide the winner. Two errors from the Mavericks finished the 27-25 third set win for Hiram.

In set four, back-to-back service aces from Andrew Diaz de Padilla put Hiram up 12-9. Down 16-15, a huge run from the Terriers had the visitors up 21-17. With the match tight at the end, Medaille scored three-straight, with the Mavericks on the verge of forcing a fifth set. An attack error led to a 25-23 fourth set win for Hiram.

Kilvio Montero posted a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs. Boehner also reached the double figure mark with ten kills while also getting five block assists. Diaz de Padilla put up 38 assists in the 3-1 victory.

Match #2: Hiram 3, Mount Aloysius 0
In set one, Hiram pulled ahead going up 12-7 after a Montero service ace. Each team collected a three-point run, but the Terriers still held the lead up 15-10 with Garrett Scheidegger getting an ace of his own. Hiram finished the first set getting six of the final seven points winning 25-16.

The Terriers again started increasing their lead during the middle portion of the second set. A four-point swing that included two Montero aces, was followed by a big six-point swing as the Terriers now were in the driver's seat up 18-12. It was smooth sailing to the finish line, with Hiram winning set two, 25-15.

At the beginning of the third set, Mount Aloysius took a 7-3 lead before the Terriers began the comeback. The team chipped away and was able to tie it at 12, before Hiram went on a run. Seven of eight points went Hiram's way, with the team now up 19-14. A Boehner kill capped off the set and the match with the Terriers winning 25-19.

Montero led again with 11 kills and eight digs. Matthew Albano tallied 19 assists with Boehner adding seven kills.

With the wins, the team moves to 11-4 on the year and remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0.

The team next hits the court on Wednesday March 5 continuing on with AMCC play hosting Thiel at 7 p.m.
