HIRAM, Ohio – February 19, 2022 – Hiram men's basketball closed out their regular season with a 82-67 victory against Oberlin on Senior Day inside Price Gymnasium.
After a slow start for the Terriers that saw Oberlin go up 6-0, Hiram quickly stormed back going up 16-9 after back-to-back three-point shots from
Oliver Clingain and
Brodgie Gordon with 14:49 left in the first half.
As the first half progressed, Hiram's lead continued to hold at double-digits. Gordon put the Terriers up 21-11 with just over ten minutes to play in the half.
The Yeomen looked to crack the lead, with Henry Lieber sinking a jumper with the score now 25-18 with 6:15 remaining in the first half.
In the final minutes of the first half, the Terriers continued playing from ahead.
Michael Ewart made a jumper with over a minute left putting the Hiram lead at 37-29 as both teams headed into the locker room.
The visitors came out hot to start the second half making it a one-possession game within the first couple of minutes. Wolf Moser put Oberlin up 41-39 under four minutes into the second half.
After
Kevin Beans Jr. made a jumper, Hiram began to pull away. After a pair of Gordon free throws,
Sherman Cox and
Max Johnson made three-point shots with the Terriers now leading 57-48. Johnson picked up his season-high seventh point on a free throw as Hiram held the double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.
Gordon hit back-to-back three-pointers, with Hiram now holding their biggest lead of the game at 69-51 with just over seven minutes left.
It was all
Brodgie Gordon down the stretch for Hiram, the senior made three of the final four shots for the Terriers. Gordon collected seven points in a minute getting his scoring total to 25 on the afternoon.
Isiah Taborn capped off the scoring hitting a three, as the Terriers went on to win 82-67.
Along with his team-leading 25
th point, Gordon also had seven assists, five steals and three rebounds. Beans Jr. also reached the double-figure mark scoring 12 along with three assists. Senior
Texan Moulton brought down a team-leading 13 rebounds.
As a team, the Terriers shot 46.9% from the floor and 43.8% from beyond the arc.
Hiram closes the season with a 9-16 record going 6-12 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action.
The Terriers hit the road for the first round of the NCAC Tournament. Hiram travels to Wabash on Tuesday, Feb. 22 for a matchup with the Little Giants with a tip-off time to be announced.
