Hiram Men's Basketball Falls to Wabash in the NCAC Quarterfinals

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – February 23, 2022 – Hiram men's basketball dropped their quarterfinal matchup of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Men's Basketball Tournament at no. 1 seed Wabash by a score of 101-79.

Jack Davidson started hot for Wabash, scoring ten consecutive points at the start of the game. After making a driving layup, Davidson and the Little Giants went up 14-9 with 15:25 left in the first half.

As the first half progressed, Wabash began to slowly build the double-digit lead before the Terriers cut the lead back to single digits. Brodgie Gordon made back-to-back shots, cutting the Wabash lead to 27-22 with under eight minutes to play before the break.

Down the stretch, the home team went back to going up by double-digits before the half ended. With under two minutes in the half, Davidson and Kellen Schreiber combined for the final eight points in the half going up 49-33 as the teams headed to the locker room.

Davidson and Schreiber picked up where they left off starting the second half. Each hit a jumper starting the second half with Wabash pulling ahead further with their lead.

Schreiber made a jumper, followed by a free throw for the first 20-point lead of the night as the Little Giants held the firm lead with under 15 minutes to play.

Down the stretch, Gordon made a three with Spencer Willman sinking a jump shot, but the Wabash lead was persisting up 21 with 7:47 left in regulation.

Joe Ayo and Rodney James finished the scoring for the Terriers with a three-point shot and two made free throws. Wabash closed out the contest-winning 101-79.

Gordon finished the night as the leading scorer with 20 points along with four assists and three rebounds. Gordon reached his 1000th career point in the game becoming the 29th player in program history to reach the milestone. The senior guard has averaged 14.4 points per game this season including scoring 20 or more back in back-to-back games to end the season.

Willman scored 15 along with Kevin Beans Jr. and Sherman Cox putting up 11. Texan Moulton brought down a team-leading seven rebounds.

Hiram ends the season with a 9-17 record and a 6-12 record in conference play.
