Hiram Men's Basketball Falls at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – February 16, 2022 – Hiram men's basketball dropped a road North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) at Kenyon, 70-62.

Peter Haas collected the first two points of the game for the Lords which was followed by a scoring drought by both teams. After the made bucket about two minutes, the next points wouldn't be scored until about four minutes later with Kenyon making a free throw.

Ivan Yang put the Terriers on the scoreboard sinking two free throws with 14:15 left in the first half.

The home team jumped out to their first double-digit lead of the game after Drew Valentino put in two free throws, extending the lead to 20-9 with under ten minutes to play.

Down the stretch of the first half, Brodgie Gordon made back-to-back shots as the Terriers looked to cut the deficit now down 26-18 with 4:07 remaining in the half.

Yang made the final bucket of the half for Hiram, but Kenyon went into the locker room up 32-22.

Minutes into the second half, the visitors cut the Kenyon lead to a one-possession game after a Gordon three made the score 34-32 about four minutes into the half.

As the second half progressed, the tight game continued. Kevin Beans Jr. put in a three, cutting the Lords lead to one with nine minutes to pay.

Down the stretch run of the second half, the Kenyon lead held firm. A Haas layup with under two minutes left in the game put the Lords up nine and in the driver's seat to secure the win.

Beans Jr. cut the lead to six with 30 seconds left, but the comeback attempt fell short with the Lords winning 70-62.

"We gave a great effort defensively, we just couldn't find any consistency offensively," said Head Coach Taylor Roth. "Give Kenyon credit, they were ready to play."

Beans Jr. led in the scoring department with a team-high 22 points with seven rebounds. Gordon finished with 17 along with five assists. Texan Moulton brought down a team-high 11 rebounds.

With the loss, the Terriers fall to 8-16 on the year and 5-12 in conference play.

Hiram's final regular-season contest is on Saturday, Feb. 19 when the team takes on Oberlin inside Price Gymnasium at noon.
