Balanced Effort Not Enough In Loss To Baldwin Wallace

4 Players Score In Double-Figures For Hiram

BEREA, Ohio - November 12, 2022 - Hiram had contributions across the board, but the balanced effort fell short in an 85-77 loss to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday evening at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Terriers had four different players score in double-figures, including two off the bench: Kevin Beans Jr. (18 points), Dushawn Hill (15), Brodgie Gordon (14) and Doug Sartain (10). Gordon also recorded team-highs in rebounds (9, tied with Ricky Esdel) and assists (5), and now leads the team in PPG (20.5), RPG (9.5) and APG (8.5) through two games this season.

The early stages of the game were competitive, as neither team led by more than 5 points for the first 17 minutes of the game. Head coach Taylor Roth's bench provided an early spark, including 4 points and 3 assists from junior Max Johnson.

A Sartain three-pointer gave Hiram a 19-14 advantage, but the Yellow Jackets eventually went on a 19-7 run to take a 47-38 lead heading into the intermission.

More of the same back-and-forth action followed, with Baldwin Wallace's lead ranging between 5 and 16 points for the second half. Hiram cut the deficit to 74-69 with 5:05 remaining, a comeback fueled by a 5-point burst from Hill and shots from Gordon and Beans Jr.

The Terriers couldn't complete the comeback, but kept the score within single digits for the last 6:14 of game time.

Hiram returns home for three games at Price Gymnasium next week: Tuesday vs Pitt Greensburg (7 p.m.), Wednesday vs Pitt Bradford (7 p.m.) and Sunday vs Bluffton (4 p.m.).
