Box Score Oberlin, OH -- October 1, 2022Â --Â The Hiram College Football team celebrated its 1,000th gridiron game in school history with a resounding 34-7 victory at Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon.
Hiram dominated the game with a ground attack that piled up 284 yards while the defense limited the Yeomen to a net 29 yards rushing. Senior running back
Malcolm Rogers -- the second-leading rusher in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) -- tallied a game-high 183 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. He opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 22-yard run, capping a drive of 9 plays, covering 57 yards in 3:01. Â
Early in the second quarter, Oberlin tied the game at 7-7, but that was the extent of the scoring for the Yeoman as Hiram's defense tightened.
On Hiram's next possession, the Terriers took a 14-7 lead when they marched 61 yards in seven plays in less than two minutes (1:50). Sophomore running back
Anthony Sessi scored the TD on a 10-yard pass play from freshman quarterback Sean Tejada, making his second consecutive start for Hiram. Â

Chris Miller added field goals of 35 and 22 yards to give the Terriers a 20-7 halftime lead.
Late in the third stanza, Hiram orchestrated a 70-yard drive in 10 plays in 3:54 with Rogers again taking the football to the end zone on a 28-yard scamper. Miller's kick made it 27-7 after three quarters.
Just as the final quarter began, the Terriers took possession at the Oberlin 39-yardline. Rogers scored his third TD of the game, this one on a 1-yard burst on the fifth play of the drive to give the Terriers the final margin of 34-7.
Head Coach Jack Mrozinski praised his young team. "I am so proud of how our guys fought all day in all three phases of the game," Mrozinski said.. "The players have worked hard all year and never lost faith and it showed today. To do it in the 1,000 game for the Hiram Terriers Football Program makes it all the more special."
Tejada completed 17-of-32 passes for 141 yards and a TD. With the dominant rushing attack, the Terriers accumulated 425 yards of total offense while holding Oberlin to 233 net yards. Tejada also ran for another 88 yards on 13 carries.
Graduate senior
Moe Yarbrough topped the receivers with four catches for 41 yards. Senior wideout
Raequan Davis-Hereford also caught four passes for 23 yards.
The defense turned in its finest performance of the season. Sophomore cornerback Ricardo Jiminez led the unit with eight tackles, an interception and two pass break-ups., while junior linebacker
Dylan Baliker contributed seven. Freshman linebacker
Gavin Cruser added a half-dozen tackles and freshman linebacker
Princeton Brown was in on five hits and returned an interception 28 yards..
Now that the Terriers have notched their first win of the season, they can rest next week before they travel to Denison on Oct. 15 when they will attempt to earn their second victory of the season.
