HIRAM, Ohio – January 14, 2022 – Hiram men's basketball dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game inside Price Gymnasium Friday night against Wabash, 100-79.
Wabash started the contest with a lead as Ahmoni Jones hit a three-point shot putting the Little Giants up 9-2 early on. Minutes later,
Chance Wells answered with a three of his own as the Terriers now were leading slightly at 13-12 with 15:03 left in the first half.
As the midway point of the first half approached,
Kevin Beans Jr. made a layup with the home side now slightly trailing 21-17 with 11:48 left.
Wabash began to pull away just minutes later after another Jones three as the road side now held a 31-19 lead. Back-to-back made shots from Beans Jr., which included a dunk and a layup, cut the Little Giants lead into single digits with Wabash now ahead 34-25 with over six minutes left in the half.
Jack Davidson capped the scoring for Wabash to end the half as the visiting team went into the locker room now up 50-37.
The Little Giants opened the second half up hot as Davidson continued his scoring with back-to-back layups with 16:47 left in the contest with Wabash winning 64-42.
With the Little Giants now controlling a double-digit lead in the next few minutes, Hiram was able to get within single digits after a
Brodgie Gordon three that made it 76-67 with under ten minutes left in the game.
Wabash fought back, however, as their lead climbed up again. With over six minutes left in the game, Vinny Buccilla made a layup stretching the lead to 90-69.
Rodney James and
Ivan Yang closed out the scoring for the Terriers. James made a jump shot and Yang a dunk as Wabash held on for the 100-79 victory.
Wabash finished the night shooting 61.3% from the floor and 55.6% from beyond the arc. The Little Giants were nearly perfect from the free throw line shooting nine-of-ten.
Hiram shot 45.6% from the floor and 36.0% from three.
Davidson and Jones led the Little Giants with 27 and 22. Gordon finished as the leading scorer for the Terriers with 23 points along with four assists and three rebounds. Beans Jr. collected 20 points with four rebounds and assists.
Hiram falls to 4-9 on the season and 1-6 in conference play. The team has a quick turnaround playing at Oberlin on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.
