Hiram Women's Volleyball Defeats Pitt. Greensburg in Three Sets

GREENSBURG, Pa. – September 18, 2021 – Hiram women's volleyball picked up their eighth three-set victory of the year defeating Pitt. Greensburg, 3-0, in a road matchup on Saturday.

In set one, Hiram jolted ahead at the 7-4 mark going on a five-point run that included two Kiara Franks kills making it 11-4. Pitt-Greensburg got another point back, but Hiram again went on another five-point swing capped by a Cate Maguire kill. It was smooth sailing for the road team as the Terriers finished set one scoring three straight points winning 25-14.

After falling in set one, Pitt. Greensburg looked to rebound in set two coming out strong. The Bobcats scored three straight points marching out to a 13-9 lead. After scoring four of the next five points, the home team looked to be in solid shape with a 17-11 lead. Hiram quickly put up five points in a row trailing by just one point. Another mini run by Pitt. Greensburg opened up a 22-17 lead, but Hiram wasn't done yet. The Terriers finished set two scoring eight of the final nine points winning 25-23 in comeback fashion.

As they did in set three, the Bobcats started with a lead up 7-4. As Hiram fought back, the game was tied up at 13 after a four point Pitt. Greensburg swing. The Terriers closed out the set with 11 straight points closing out the set and match in dominant fashion winning 25-15.

16 total Terriers appeared in the straight set defeat as two freshman led the team in kills. Kayla Franks and Andrya Hanmore had six each. Madison Burns and Emily Chrustic reached the double digit mark in assists with 12 and 11. Defensively, Hanmore had three solo blocks as fellow freshman Emily Richardson was right behind her with two. As was the case with kills and blocks, two more freshman led the team in digs. Sydney Jacquin and Miya Gotto led the squad with eight and seven.

With the win Hiram improves to 8-5 on the season and 3-1 in away matches.

Hiram next plays at home vs. Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday, Sept. 21 with a 7 p.m. start time.
