HIRAM, Ohio – September 12, 2021 – Hiram men's soccer fell to the Defiance College Yellow Jackets. 4-1, in a non-conference matchup on Sunday at Charles A. Henry Field.
Defiance started the scoring in the first half with a Noah Svanberg goal just before the 23
rd minute. Noah Howdeshell picked up the assist on the first half goal.
At the midway point both teams had seven shots with Defiance needing to make two saves and Hiram making one.
In the 59
th minute, Svanberg secured his second goal of the match with a Josh Maurer assist. Svanberg scored his third and final goal for Defiance in the 76
th minute.
Isaac Opoku put Hiram on the scoreboard in the 88
th minute on a penalty kick goal.
The Yellow Jackets scored one more goal in the 89
th minute with Jack Stanoikovich finding the back of the net.
Hiram had 16 shots in the second half with Defiance taking seven.
Goalkeeper
Shelby Edwards made three saves with Orry Killam making eight for Defiance.
Ben Zuniga had six shots with
Joseph Suarez having four. Additionally, both Zuniga and Suarez had three shots on target.
With the loss Hiram drops to 1-2-2 on the season. The team next plays at Mount Union on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m.
