Hiram Softball Falls at Wooster

WOOSTER, OHIO – April 25, 2021 - Hiram softball fell in two games at Wooster losing 10-2 in five innings in game one and falling in game two 11-10 in nine innings.

GAME 1: Kaitlyn Hager hit her second home run of the season in the top of the first inning giving Hiram an early 1-0 lead. From there Wooster would take control at the plate with two home runs in the bottom of the first and third innings.

Molly Linkis and Emmalee Cooke had the two blasts with Linkis drilling a solo shot and Cooke hitting a two run shot. Additionally, in the third inning was a bases loaded walk from Katie Agatucci and Linkis hitting a two run double.

Melissa Galindo hit an RBI double to score Lexa Avalos which would prove to be the final run for the Terriers in the first contest.

Wooster would score three more runs in the fifth inning going on to win 10-2 in five frames.

Kaitlyn Hager made the start and took the loss for Hiram falling to 1-1 on the season.

Olivia Johnson made the start for the Fighting Scots picking up the win with 11 strikeouts.

Giselle Bahena was the lone Terrier to record more than one hit as Hager and Galindo had a RBI.

GAME 2: Game two started with Wooster scoring quickly. Gabby Lakes hit a bases clearing double in the top of the first inning. Agatucci followed that up with a double of her own stretching the Wooster lead to 4-0. Emmalee Cooke chipped in with an RBI sacrifice fly in the second.

A three run third inning would see the Terriers get back into the ballgame. Ryleigh Webb, Bahena and Abriana Schwartz all had RBI singles making the Wooster lead 5-3.

The home side would answer with a three run third inning of their own with all three runs being unearned.

Mariah Sheffield hit her team leading fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning scoring Hager and Bahena. Hiram would follow that up with two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at eight.

Hager hit an RBI double followed by Bahena scoring Hager on an RBI infield single.

Only one hit would be recorded in the seventh inning between both teams as the game headed to extras. Hiram struck first in the eighth with Hager reaching on a fielding error causing Galindo and Giselle Chavez to round third and score.

In the bottom half of the eighth Ciara Herbert reached on a fielder's choice scoring Molly Linkis. Heidi Linkis drew a bases loaded walk to tie it at ten as the two teams played on.

Hiram put runners on the corners in the ninth, but couldn't capitalize with any runs. Emmalee Cooke would reach on a throwing error in the ninth with Brooke Swain coming home to win it for Wooster 11-10.

Ten fferent Terriers had a hit in game two. The middle of the order did plenty of damage with Sheffield tallying three RBI and Bahena and Hager each notching two. Galindo had three runs with two hits.

Angel Santellan pitched all eight innings in the circle for Hiram. Santellan picked up her first loss of the season, dropping to 5-1.

Olivia Johnson took home the win for Wooster, improving to 8-4 as she pitched 3.1 innings in relief.

Hiram (19-12) will next play at home at Herndon Field against Oberlin on Wednesday, April 28 with a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
