WOOSTER, OHIO – April 25, 2021 - Hiram baseball dropped two games at Wooster falling in game one 13-11 and 9-3 in game two.
GAME 1: Adam Gasper started the scoring for the Fighting Scots in game one hitting a two run single in the second inning. Dominic Stilliana scored on a wild pitch followed by Tyler Chumita with an RBI double scoring Gasper. Ben Hines singled in Chumita to conclude the scoring for Wooster at 5-0.
In the third and fourth innings Hiram would answer big with eleven runs. In the third
Cody Wilson hit an RBI single to score
Chaisson Marrs. Following that was a two run double from
Kyle Workman with
Evan Fairbanks singling in Workman.
Cody Wilson again started the scoring in the fourth inning knocking an RBI double bringing Marrs in.
David Paus hit an RBI groundout followed by a two RBI single from Fairbanks.
Curtis Caithaml continued the scoring in the inning scoring Fairbanks on an RBI single. A two run double from Marrs brought the Hiram lead to 11-5 after the fourth inning.
Between the fifth and sixth innings Wooster put eight runs on the board to complete the comeback at 13-11.
Eight different Terriers recorded a hit in game one. Wilson, Fairbanks and Marrs all had two hits. Additionally, Fairbanks had three RBI with Wilson, Workman and Marrs each collecting two.
Robert James made the start for Hiram pitching two innings.
Jacob Kocuba (2-6) took the loss in one inning of relief.
Eli Westrick (1-0) took the win for the Fighting Scots with Corey Knauf earning his first save of the season.
GAME 2: It was smooth sailing through three innings for both
John Lusnek and Jay DiBacco on the mound. Neither starter allowed a run as there were five hits between both sides through three.
Wooster would change that however with a six run fourth inning. All three hits were for extra bases as Gabe Sherman, Ben Hines and Ben Gbur provided the scoring.
Michael Corsillo and
Kyle Workman connected on RBI hits in the fifth. Corsillo hit a double down the left field line scoring
Cody Wilson with Workman getting Corsillo to score on an RBI single.
Dane Camphausen hit a bases clearing double in the sixth pushing the Wooster lead out to 9-3.
Curtis Caithaml would score in the seventh on a wild pitch as Wooster would hold on to beat the Terriers by a final of 9-3.
Wilson and Corsillo had two hits for the road team with Corsillo and Workman providing the RBI.
Lusnek (0-4) took the loss for Hiram. Lusnek tied a season high with four strikeouts in the start.
DiBacco (5-0) picked up the win going 4.1 innings. Four additional Wooster pitchers made appearances.
Hiram (8-26) will return home and play Kenyon on Saturday, May 1 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
