HIRAM, Ohio - April 24, 2021 – Hiram baseball dropped a home doubleheader against Wooster falling in game 9-7 and losing game two 5-4.
GAME 1: Both teams got on the scoreboard quickly with each squad scoring. Dane Camphausen hit a two run home run in the top of the first inning scoring Ben Gbur.
Hiram answered with a four spot in the bottom half of the inning.
David Paus hit a two run single scoring
Kyle Adams and
Kyle Workman.
Devin Houdeshell hit an RBI groundout scoring
Curtis Caithaml followed by
David Paus scoring on a wild pitch making it 4-1.
Wooster came back with a four run inning of their own in the top of the second. Adam Gasper hit a solo home run with Tyler Chumita hitting an RBI single to score Dean Brown. A Ben Hines RBI triple would give Wooster the lead back at 5-4. Hines would then score on a wild pitch to finish the scoring.
Kyle Workman got a run back for the Terriers with an RBI sacrifice fly scoring
Cody Wilson to make it 6-5.
Noah Clement hit a solo home run in the third inning, with
Evan Fairbanks hitting one of his own in the bottom half of the inning. The long ball was the second home run of the season for Fairbanks.
Chumita hit a two run single extending the Fighting Scots lead to 9-6.
Cody Wilson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring Houdeshell, but it would be the last run Hiram would score falling 9-7.
Stephen Javorek (2-3) took the loss for the home side.
Neil Robertson pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the Terriers.
Ethan Samangy picked up the win for Wooster. Five different pitchers made appearances for Wooster in the first game. Colin Springer had his third save pitching one inning of scoreless relief.
Paus and Adams each had two hits. Paus had two RBI with a run scored. Workman had two walks, with one run, hit and RBI.
GAME 2: Both pitchers kept the bats quiet through the first two innings in game two.
Clement's RBI sacrifice fly broke the scoreless tie scoring Chumita in the third inning.
In the fourth inning Hiram scored three runs taking the lead at 3-1. Paus hit an RBI sacrifice fly with
Andrew Church scoring.
Tanner Allison then hit a two run single down the left field line to score Fairbanks and Workman.
Camphausen hit an RBI sacrifice fly to start the fifth inning for Wooster. Adam Gapser's three run home run in the same inning gave the Fighting Scots the lead at 5-3.
Kyle Workman's RBI single scored
Andrew Church making it 5-4. Hiram put two runners on in the seventh inning, but didn't score.
Colin Springer (1-0) picked up the win with 3.2 innings pitched striking out five.
Daniel Quintero Jr. made the start for Hiram pitching four innings with six punch outs.
Jacob Kocuba (2-5) took the loss with three innings pitched and four strikeouts. The six strikeouts are the second most this season for Quintero Jr.
At the plate Workman had three hits, along with
Andrew Church recording three walks. Allison added two RBI with his double.
Hiram (8-24) will play Wooster again tomorrow, Sunday April 25, with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
