MEADVILLE, Pa. – April 18, 2021 – Hiram baseball lost two games at Allegheny dropping game one by a score of 5-0 and falling in game two 4-3.
GAME 1: In the third inning Jacob Budnar hit a sacrifice fly scoring Roman Santia putting the Gators on the scoreboard.
Allegheny scored the remainder of their runs in the fifth inning. Chase Chodkowski hit a two run single putting the team up 3-0. Chodkowski stole home later in the inning, followed by Ben Kosbie driving in a run with an RBI single scoring Luke Chutko.
Kyle Adams and
Michael Corsillo collected the two hits for Hiram. Adams,
Kyle Workman and
Devin Houdeshell had walks in game one. Houdeshell picked up his first stolen base of the year.
Jacob Kocuba made the start for the Terriers. Kocuba (2-4) picked up the loss going five innings allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts.
Zachary Scalf pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Hunter Lohr made the start and picked up the win for the Gators pitching six innings allowing no runs with ten strikeouts.
GAME 2: In game two Allegheny got on the scoreboard quickly. Brett Heckert hit an RBI single scoring Chodkowski for the game's first run. Tyler Hettich followed that with an RBI groundout making it 2-0.
Starting pitcher
John Lusnek rebounded retiring the next nine batters in order.
Hiram would even the game up in the third inning thanks to two RBI doubles. Workman doubled in Corsillo with
Curtis Caithaml scoring Workman on his double.
Workman would give the Terriers a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single scoring Corsillo giving the Terriers a 3-2 lead.
Dalton Dubois answered in the bottom half of the inning for the home team with an RBI double tying it at three.
In the top of the seventh inning Adams and Workman were able to draw walks for Hiram, but no further damage was done. Brett Heckert's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning would win it for Allegheny by a score of 4-3.
Workman and Caithaml each had two hits for the road team. Workman added two RBI with a run and a walk. Caithaml had one RBI. Corsillo and catcher
Tanner Allison also picked up hits.
Lusnek pitched five innings on the bump allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. The five innings pitched are the second most pitched this year for the right hander as his four strikeouts is a career high.
Sam Boyle (1-1) took the loss for Hiram pitching 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
Hiram falls to 8-22 on the season in their final games against Allegheny this year.
The team will next play on Saturday, April 24 when they host Wooster with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
