HIRAM, Ohio. – April 17, 2021 – Hiram baseball split a doubleheader against Allegheny Saturday afternoon winning game one, 4-2 and dropping game two, 9-4.
GAME 1: The home side starting the scoring early with a two run first inning.
David Paus hit a two run single scoring
Kyle Adams and
Kyle Workman to make it 2-0 Terriers.
Workman would extend the lead with a two run single of his own in the next inning pushing the Terrier lead to 4-0.
Between the second inning and the fifth inning starting pitcher
Robert James allowed just one hit. Allegheny scored two runs in the sixth inning. Ben Kosbie reached on a fielder's choice scoring Brett Heckert. Tyler Hettich proceeded to hit an RBI single scoring Jake Stotsky.
Jacob Kocuba pitched the final two frames for Hiram allowing just one hit and no runs. Kocuba notched his second save of the season.
James (2-3) went five innings allowing two earned runs with one strikeout. The right handed pitcher earned his first win since March 10 when he went five innings against Pitt-Greensburg.
Paus went 2-for-3 in game one collecting two RBI. Workman added two RBI himself with a 1-for-2 game and a run and walk.
Chaisson Marrs had two walks with a run scored.
Bobby Kusinsky (1-2) took the loss for Allegheny.
GAME 2: Allegheny came out hot in the second game bringing four runs across the plate in the first inning. Two RBI singles by Luke Chutko and Isaiah Lucas helped bring the Gators lead to 4-0.
Seth Reisman hit a two run single in the fourth inning making it 6-0. The road side brought in three more runs in the sixth inning.
In the sixth inning
Kyle Adams brought in the first Hiram run hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home
Michael Corsillo. Marrs singled scoring
Parker Emerine in the seventh inning followed by Corsillo singling in
Cody Wilson. The Gators would hang on in the ninth inning and win 9-4.
Ben Gustely (0-4) took the loss for the Terriers. Daniel Morgano (1-0) picked up the win pitching 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
At the plate Corsillo and Adams each had two hits. Adams, Marrs and Corsillo each had an RBI for the Terriers.
Hiram (8-20) picked up their third conference win going to 3-9 in NCAC play. The team will have a quick turnaround and play at Allegheny tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
